It is a pleasure to attend the present International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg at the invitation of President Putin. I sincerely thank President Putin and his Russian friends for their warm reception and thoughtful arrangements.
St. Petersburg is the largest port in Russia and is also known as the "Baltic Pearl". The historical accumulation of more than 300 years and the rapid development in recent years have given the city a rich classical temperament and a distinctive outlook of the times. President Putin once played a Russian song: "There is a city on the Neva River. That is the crystallization of our labor." This vividly reflects the special position of St. Petersburg in the hearts of the Russian people.
Since its establishment in 1997, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum has grown in scale and influence. It has become an important platform for all parties to exchange ideas, pool wisdom, and seek cooperation. With the theme of "Building a Sustainable Development Agenda" as its theme, this forum is relevant to the common concerns of the international community.
The world today is undergoing a great transformation that has not been seen in a century. The emerging market countries and developing countries have risen at an unprecedented rate, the metabolism and fierce competition brought about by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial changes have never been unprecedented, and the global governance system and the international situation have not been adapted and asymmetrical.
In the face of change, it is the right choice for all parties to make joint efforts and win-win cooperation. Looking around the world, sustainable development is the best point of convergence of interests and the best entry point for cooperation. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aims to achieve harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature, take into account the development needs of current and future generations, and puts forward the three major tasks of promoting economic growth, social development and environmental protection in a coordinated manner, thus charting a new vision for global development.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China. As the world's largest developing country and a responsible major country, China has been unswervingly fulfilling its commitment to sustainable development, and has made internationally recognized achievements.
It attached great importance to strengthening international cooperation for sustainable development. In 2013, I put forward the initiative of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to achieve mutual benefit and common development for all countries. The Belt and Road Initiative and the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development are highly compatible in terms of goals, principles and implementation paths, and have received positive responses and support from the international community. In April this year, the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was successfully held in Beijing. All parties agreed to work together to build the Belt and Road with high quality, uphold the principle of joint development and sharing, adhere to the principles of openness, green and clean, and achieve high standards, people's livelihood and sustainability. We will build a global partnership for connectivity, effectively align the Belt and Road Initiative with the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, coordinate and coordinate economic, social and environmental relations, and pursue green, low-carbon and sustainable development.
International cooperation can not be carried out without sincere, mutual trust and like-minded partners. The Russian Federation is China's largest neighbor and comprehensive strategic partner of coordination, and an important priority partner for cooperation in various fields. In keeping with the concept of sustainable development, the two sides actively carried out cooperation on clean energy such as natural gas, and took science and technology innovation, the digital economy and online e-commerce as new growth points for cooperation.
President Putin and I reached a consensus to build the Belt and Road Initiative and link it with the Eurasian Economic Union. At the same time, building the Belt and Road Initiative shares the concept of the Greater Eurasian Partnership proposed by President Putin. The two initiatives can support each other, promote each other and go hand in hand.
